I'm not certain if the guest arrivals are regular. I'm at Level 20 and with three guests and my boyfriend at Level 16 has four guests.

Of notable difference is that I'm taking the pretty reef route and he is predominantly farming for algae and sand dollars.

I want to find out a pattern. I think that guests arrive at certain levels IF the vitality passes a certain treshold...

and if I am right, this could be an important factor to consider before moving to a certain level.

Red octopus level 15 ( kids reef) 86%
Could be based on which rares you have. I could be at 100% at everything including rares but not have every rare to that point.

But I think there are just two paths the jellyfish path and the octopus path. It does not seem like they cross.

    I got the yellow octopus at level 25 with 70% vitality;
previously I had the brown seadragon, green seahorse, white seahorse, and yellow jellyfish...
I can't remember specifically which levels the seahorses and seadragon came, but they were all really early, pre level 10/11. The jellyfish came during level 21.
    Hopefully that helps

Thx for the data! According to Msfry the jellyfish and octopi can cross (level 21 / 25).

We have two games going here. Hubby and I have gotten guests at the same levels. He has gotten jellies and I have gotten sea horses. Neither of us have gotten an octopus. I am level 19 almost 20 and he is level 17.

I got the brown sea dragon, yellow jellyfish, white sea horse, and red octopus, in that order. Maybe it is a combination of vitality and what rares you have and your level because it seems 21 (the level I am on) is a popular one to get a guest on, though it is not always the same guest. The rares I have are:

    green thalassia
    yellow thalassia
    pink water hyssop flowers
    orange water hyssop flowers
    amber sea nymph
    white sea nymph
    bright green thalassodendron
    brown himanthalia elongata
    olive himanthalia elongata
    green sea grapes
    maroon sea grapes
    pastel orange halimeda plant

Does anyone with the green sea horse have anything not on that list?

I just hit level 20. I only have the brown sea dragon and green seahorse as guests, both I got earlier than level 16. It's been so long since I've had a guest I don't remember when I got them (before I found this site). 100% plants, 80% rare plants, 92% rare fish and 60% guests, 85% total vitality. Not sure how I have 60% guests when I only have 2. These are the rares I have:

    green thalassia
    yellow thalassia
    pink water hyssop flowers
    orange water hyssop flowers
    amber sea nymph
    white sea nymph
    bright green thalassodendron
    brown himanthalia elongata
    green sea grapes
Red kelp on rock (just got this at level 20 using extraordinary seed, so not related to green seahorse).

Hope this helps, everyone's analysis has been great. Just another note, I was getting 1 rare sparkling mystery for every 13 planted 2 times in a row, but the last time I tried this early in 19 I gave up trying to get a sparkling after almost 20 mystery seeds. Then on my first extraordinary seed at the beginning of 20 I get the red kelp. So I think I'm really done with mysteries, and the enigmatic seed got a yellow thalassia which really stinks. I just keep checking the tap joy app to stock up on pearls.

I have only gotten sea horses (white and green), sea dragons (brown and white), and yellow octopus so far. The yellow octopus was the last one I got and that was about the same time/ level as everyone else (24ish?). I'm expecting to get the green octopus at level 31 if the pattern keeps up. I will let y'all know! (Oh and my vitality has never been below 70% when a guest shows up)

Level 21, Vitality 43%, guest arrival. I'm not convinced vitality has much to do with guest arrivals.
